Any thoughts on the recent pullback in ATD which has been a core holding of mine for years. I have ascribed mainly to the 7-11 buyout offer but wondering if I’m missing anything. Otherwise this might be good opportunity to add
Funnily enough, as a fan of ATD I built a small position in SVNDY pre buyout shenanigans. As a shareholder of both companies, but heavility weighted towards ATD, Im not sure which is the better long term outcome....remain independent or acquisition by ATD
Beyond some securities that haven’t vested I also recently pulled out of U.S. entirely. Seems the rotation to most any non U.S. market has worked well short term, especially China. Erik at YVR suggested BIDU as a potential laggard that could offer a decent entry here. He’s been great on the China call so far.
Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, I can't bring myself to buy Chinese equities. Been on the short side of too many Chinese frauds.
Historically one of the best ways to play China was the base metal miners. But if Xi & CCP are serious about boosting domestic consumption it might not work (for the miners) this time.
Thought you were nuts when you said you were selling your US stocks…but great timing! And excellent point on the EV chargers. Long way to go for this tech.

I think their attempted acquisition of 7-11 is hurting the stock price. ATD management has become obsessed with trying to close the deal.
It also doesn't help that the low-end US consumer is struggling which hurts their bottom line (they missed analysts' estimates yesterday).
Our conversation seems to have spurred some buying interest today! I should have listened to myself and added yesterday:)

Thanks Geoff. It's sad what's happening but there's nothing we can do about it.
